Professional Background
As the owner of jvb physical therapy services, llc., Jennifaye V. Brown, PT, MSPT, PhD, NCS, CAPS takes pride in establishing fitness programs targeting individuals of all levels of abilities. She is inspired to develop exercises and physical activities to improve health when the individual demonstrates self-efficacy: believing in his or her capacity to execute behaviors necessary to achieve fitness goals. The focus is on the person doing the work not Dr. Brown making the person do the work. Dr. Brown sees herself as an instructor to guide individuals towards the goal by providing a person-centered exercise or physical activity plan.
Physical Activity:1 Any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that results in energy expenditure and can be accomplished by engaging in occupational duties (work), sports, leisure or household activities.
Exercise:1 A subcategory of physical activity that is planned, structured, and repetitive [duration, order of events such as stretching, strengthening, aerobic/cardiac conditioning and balance, and has a specific amount of repetitions per set]. There is a designated outcome or goal to improve physical fitness which is skilled-based [walk a mile as an example] or health-based [lower blood pressure as an example].
To achieve anything in life, discipline and consistency are key. Dr. Brown’s expectation is that her clients come ready with a level of seriousness to be disciplined and consistent to achieve their goals. Dr. Brown brings her expertise in Exercise Science (PhD: Doctor of Philosophy), personal training (Certified by the Athletics Fitness Association of America – AFAA®), aquatic fitness (Certified by FiTOUR®) and physical therapy (MS: Master of Science) to provide evidence-based exercise/physical activity instruction with vigor and enthusiasm. She trains individuals based on the FITT-CORRECT Principle: Frequency, Intensity, Time & Type of exercise – Combination of interventions/exercises, Order of interventions/exercises, Repetitions, Rest Period, Exercise at home, Cognitive Domain [what you know and understand], & Total dose [amount of exercise/physical activity] & re-evaluation of the fitness program. Be ready to move for better health!
