Service Processes

  1. Physician referred home care for individuals requiring the specialized services of a clinical specialist in neurology

Prior to physical therapy services a written physician’s referral stating:
    1. “Physical Therapy Evaluation & Treatment”
    2. Duration and Frequency
    3. Diagnosis
  2. Direct Access Without Physician Referral – home care intended for short term interventions less than 30 days
    • South Carolina allows direct access to physical therapy services. In the absence of a physician referral, physical therapy services can be provided for 30 days after the initial physical therapy examination. Thereafter, the patient must be referred to the physician and a referral as detailed above is required for continued physical therapy services.
    • Individuals should verify with the insurance carrier that physical therapy services are covered and be pre-approved without a physician’s referral.
