Course to Take

Renewal Course: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers Card that has not expired.

Initial Course: If you have another vendor card (e.g. American Red Cross) or AHA CPR that is not BLS for Healthcare providers or AHA Basic Life Support Card that has expired.

Course Options

  1. In person following Covid-19 (if warranted) procedures as recommended by the AHA; Cost: $40.00 [student] & $60.00 [healthcare professional] – due at the beginning of class
    • Dr. Brown will provide a student manual and charge $15.00 if any markings are made in the student manual.
  2. Complete the didactic portion online which includes the test and pay a separate fee; bring proof of completion and complete the skills check in-person for an additional fee of $25.00 [student & healthcare professional]

What is the instructor-to-student ratio for the BLS Initial/Renewal Course?

The BLS Course is designed for a ratio of 3 students to 1 manikin, with no more than 2 manikins to 1 Instructor. Therefore, a total of 6 people per class is recommended. There has to be a minimum of two students present for a class.

How long is the BLS Initial Course?

The BLS Initial Course averages 4 hours & 15 minutes long including all required lessons, if taught using the recommended instructor-to-student ratio of 1 Instructor to 6 students.

How long is the BLS Renewal Course?
The BLS Renewal Course averages 2 hours, 50 minutes long including all required lessons, if taught using the recommended Instructor-to-student ratio of 1 instructor to 6 students.
How will I receive my CPR card?

You will receive an electronic version of the CPR card, which requires passing of written examination & skills test; Lowcountry AHEC has up to 30 days to process cards; however, the card is usually received within five (5) business days or less. The email should be from [email protected] and the subject is “Claim your AHA card.” Put this address in your email address book so it does not go to SPAM.

Do I need to purchase the eBook or hard copy manual?

During the in person class, the BLS-HCP CPR test is open book, therefore having access to the eBook or bringing your manual with you is beneficial.

Investment in the e-book or hard copy manual is recommended as recertification is required if you remain a healthcare practitioner.
